Happy Thanksgiving & Local Campaign Season is Upon Us!

Republican Party of Dunn County

Welcome to this week's RPDC Blow Your Horn Weekly Communication.  It is a cold and blistery day today with a trace of snow.  Yep! Winter is here!!  And so is Thanksgiving!  A time to be grateful for being in a state that enjoys all the beauty and wonders of each season of Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.  I so appreciate the first snowfall which blankets the ground with white beautiful snowflakes. It is cool to have a change of scenery. Besides seeing the white snow, we are also seeing a lot of blaze orange due to Gun Deer Season this week in Wisconsin.  Good luck to all the men and women deer hunters out there and please be safe in the woods.

I am also grateful for the many wonderful friendships I have gained while being a member of the Republican Party of Dunn County.  And you too can experience the camaraderie with like minded conservatives during our meetings, caucuses, state convention and events to create meaningful friendships when you become a member of RPDC in 2026.  Watch your mailbox for a membership application along with an invitation to our annual Christmas Party at Jake's Supper Club on Tuesday, December 9th, 2025. There will be a social hour starting at 5 pm and at 6 pm dinner will commence.  If interested in attending the Christmas Party, RSVP by Monday, December 1st, 2025 to Diane Rust at [email protected].

Well, next week is the start of the Christmas season AND is also the start of those planning to run for local office to obtain their paperwork at the County Clerk's office in the Dunn County Government Center for Dunn County Board of Supervisors and for School Board for SDMA at the Administration Office on Pine Ave. If you are planning on running for City Council in the even wards you can go to the City Clerk's office at City Hall on 9th Street E and Wilson Ave to obtain the necessary paperwork.

So what are the necessary paperwork needed to run for office.  First required form is the Campaign Registration Statement (Form CF-1) " Every person seeking public office must complete this form and return it to the appropriate filing officer as soon as intent to seek elective office is known and before funds are collected or spent.  The campaign registration statement should be filed before circulating nomination papers."

Next required form is the Declaration of Candidacy (Form EL-162)  "A declaration of candidacy must be properly completed and filed with the filing officer no later than the deadline for filing nomination papers.  Instructions for completing this form are located on the reverse side of the form. Please sign this declaration in the presence of a notary public.   Candidates nominated for local office at a caucus must file this form with their municipal clerk within 5 days of receiving notice of nomination."

And the last required form is the Nomination Papers which is needed to get your name on the ballot for the spring election.  "The first day to circulate nomination papers is December 1 for the Spring elections, and April 15 for the August primary election. Please contact the filing officer for the number of signatures required for the office you are seeking."  For Dunn County Board of Supervisors you need a minimum of 20 signatures.  I highly recommend to obtain double or triple that number of signatures. Also, it is "your responsibility to make sure that the papers are circulated and signed only by people qualified to vote for you.  Please make sure that all signers include their proper names, complete addresses, and MUNICIPALITY.  The circulators must complete the bottom portion of the form."

I hope that helps for those thinking about running or plan on running for office for the first time.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends!

God Bless You and God Bless America!
